Mullum Roots Festival 2026 Kicks Off with Gala Opening Concert

After a sold out inaugural festival, The Mullum Roots Festival will open its second year  with a celebratory Gala Opening Night at the Mullumbimby Civic Hall on Friday, July 10th - a feel-good evening of music, community and dancing that sets the tone for the weekend ahead.

With a feast of highly acclaimed local  acts, including the Mullum favourite Zee Star in a stripped back acoustic vibe as Zee Gachette ,  Kyle Lionhart and the ever-inspiring local Byron shire’s Shelly Brown and the Midnight  Choir, bringing their signature spirit and soaring harmonies to a special hometown performance.

Headlining and closing the opening concert for dancing, is the highly acclaimed Allstar band The Pinks.  Featuring iconic Australian artists Reg Mombassa, Peter O'Doherty, Continental Robert Susz, Brendan Gallagher, Jonathan Zwartz, Hamish Stuart & Doug Nairn. These guys are the men behind the iconic music of Dynamic Hepnotics, Mental As Anything, Jimmy Little, Mighty Reapers, Dog Trumpet, Karma County, Starfish Club and more. THE PINKS play an eclectic blend of Chicago, psychedelic  country blues and are not to be missed.

Hosting the evening is none other than local icon Ellen Briggs. A powerhouse of wit and insight,

Ellen will bring her trademark humour and irreverence to the stage, guiding audiences through a night of stellar performances.

Festival Director Lou Bradley says the night reflects the heart of the festival:

“We wanted to start the festival with something joyful and inclusive. What better way than a night of incredible music, community voices and good vibes in the Civic Hall?”
